Inspired by the 60th anniversary, legacy, and ongoing significance of Freedom Summer and Freedom Schools, the theme for this year’s Summer Institute will be Freedom Teaching. Through a series of workshops led by UMD faculty and local area teachers, we will explore topics including
- Rosa Parks and Black Power
- Performing the Black Freedom Struggle
- Teaching Palestine-Israel
- AI & the Classroom
- Pedagogy and Hip Hop
Maryland, DC, and Virginia secondary school and community-based educators are encouraged to attend!
- Maryland school-based educators who attend will be eligible to receive 8 Professional Development Points (PDPs)! More information here.
- DC School based educators who attend will receive a certificate of attendance for PLUs to submit for their renewal teacher credentials.
